SLAVE RULES

These are the rules that camp slaves should strive to follow.
Owned slaves should follow the rules of their particular Owner(s).

  1. Upon entering Camp, one should go to the Owner's or serving furs and kneel.

  2. If any Frees are in camp, greet them in the proper order. After greeting the highest ranking in Camp, ask for permission to greet the Others. The correct greeting order is: your Master/Mistress, Ubar, Ubara, Free Men of Camp, Free Women of Camp, other Free Men, then other Free Women. Slaves are greeted last. A slave may ask to greet freely when the camp is busy.

  3. Take note of the Free who have not yet been served and offer service in the same order as greeting order. If you do not know who has been served and who has not, whisper to another slave, a Free, or the Ubar to find out.

  4. Kettle slaves are not to offer serve unless no other slaves are present or unless directed by a Camp Member. Kettles and mats offer modestly to all until advanced to pagar status.

  5. Pagars may offer service to any Master in nadu and can also add heat if she wishes. All service to Free Women should be offered in modest tower. When a couple sits together, the Master may be offered in nadu, the Mistress in tower. If either the Master or the Mistress request a modest serve, it should be done as requested.

  6. Slaves will keep busy in camp and should do chores while there are no Frees to serve. If a Free enters during the middle of a chore, the chore can be completed later and the Free should be tended to.

  7. Free Men will be addressed as Master, unless the Master specifies otherwise. Free Women will be addressed as Mistress, also unless specified otherwise. A Free may be described, such as Master Bill or Mistress Julia when referring to a Free in conversation. This is to aid in avoiding confusion by using just Master or Mistress.

  8. A slave will always be pleasant and cheerful to a Free. No whining, crying, or acting out to get attention. If this is done, the slave will be caged and the Owner informed. It is understood that a slave will have troubles and problems from time to time. Slaves may speak to the Slaver or Ubar or Ubara at any time.

  9. Slaves do not speak when Frees do, unless addressed by a Free, or one asks permission to. More explicitly, slaves should not interrupt a Free or EVER correct a Free.

  10. While Frees are not always right, they are, by definition, never wrong. Slaves must not argue with a Free. They do have the last two words in any disagreement. They are "Yes, Master/Mistress."

  11. Slaves may not lash out or cause strife in their jealousy but must learn to control and be gracious at all times. It is the life of kajirae. If a slave does not control jealousy, it will be seen as a fault and treated as such.

  12. A slave is not permitted to touch any coin. A slave must have the Free place it in a pouch about their necks, or they must take it in their mouth. Any slave found touching coin may be punished. A slave may not touch a weapon of any kind without permission. Use of kitchen utensils does not require permission.

  13. Slaves are not required to speak in third person speech unless ordered. They can also use their name, "this one," "this girl or boy," "a girl or boy," "a kajira or kajirus," etc.

  14. When a slave is with a Free or with someone instructing them, focus is on that person. A slave will not respond to posts until released or given permission to. If serving, the Ubar allows greeting for slaves that are serving when someone arrives. When greeting in service, a slave will use parentheses () to greet, such as, (Greetings, Master.). No additional permission is required. Interaction with others, except greeting, is delayed until the serve is complete and one is released.

  15. A slave is not to discuss one's purchase with any Free. Such discussion is to be directed to the Owner.

  16. A slave may not cut and paste serves or chores to be used at a later date. The only time it is permitted is for dances, since they usually require advance preparation. Chores may be copied and pasted to the message board from the posts in the camp.

  17. Slaves have no rights. A slave has nothing not given to one by a Free. Even a name is not one's own. It can be changed at any time. Any items given to a slave by a Free can just as easily be taken away.

  18. A slave will always kneel in the presence of a Free Person.

  19. A slave never strikes a Free Person. This is punishable by death or a severe punishment, should death not be chosen.

  20. If a slave is alone in the camp and a Free enters and behaves inappropriately, one is to script the conversation and request a moderator. If necessary, one is allowed to leave Camp. Be sure that the Ubar receives the script.
  21. kettle and mat slaves are not allowed to travel outside of camp unless escorted by a Member of camp. Pagar slaves may travel with permission.
